In XVIII century Ottoman Empire suffered
a great crisis in all areas of the state, public and economic
life. General stagnation could be noticed in both Rudnik and
Takovo regions. The extraction of ore was slowly fading away
and the only things the Turks worried about was how to keep
their territories. Nobody even thought about economic prosperity.
When they took the possession of Rudnik from the Austrians
again, the Turks burnt the mining colony down to ground and
mining activity died out.
Short before Koca's rebellion P.J.Miteser stated in his report
that there had been 100 Turkish and 18 Serbian houses.
At that time there were plenty of
forests around Takovo. The woods were rooted out near the
rivers and on some other suitable places and they were turned
into cultivable land. In 1784 going from Cacak (passing through
Brdjani) to Brusnica and farther along the Despotovica river
to Rudnik, Miteser wrote that there hadn't been forests near
the roads but there had been fertile fields, meadows and vineyards.
It is known that after Koca's rebellion (1788-1791) and Peace
in Svistov the circumstances were much better in Belgrade
Pasha's Jurisdiction. The number of inhabitants kept increasing,
and there were many newcomers in the areas around Takovo.
Economic production, and especially trade had a constant rise.
It was the time when a greater social stratification began.
Trading of cattle, especially of cows, flourished. It was
the most profitable economic limb and the source of riches
at the time. Many traders among ordinary people got rich and
they became "well-to-do persons" who, more and more,
took part in the political life.
In Takovo Region Milan Obrenovic was one of the traders. His
step-brother (they had the same mother) Milos helped him in
business. By the reasons of trade he even went to as far as
Zadar. Nikola Lunjevica was another well-to-do person who
helped, with money earned by trade, the First Serbian Rising
and he restored the churches of the monasteries of Vujan and
Mojsinja. On the eve of the First Serbian Rising there were
another eminent persons of Takovo region that should be mentioned:
Stojan Pavlovic from Berisici; Nikola Karamarkovic from Lunjevica
village and Jovan Lazic from Svrackovci.
