It is known for sure that the region
of Takovo was settled even in the Neolithic Age. Undoubtedly
the traces of archeological finds give us enough evidence
about it.
Although there haven't been systemic researches in this area
so far, a great number of objects, by which we can draw a
conclusion that Takovo region was settled very early, have
been found lately.
A bored hammer of the profile form originating from the early
Bronze Age was found in the village of Gornji Branetici, hamlet
of Vranovica-Trnavci (the site named Zobiste).
Ceramic articles originating from the Prehistoric Times were
found in the village of Dragolje (the site named Seliste),
a stone hammer was found in Kostunici and a copper axe belonging
to the early Bronze Age was found in Pranjani.
The objects from this period were discovered in Gornja Vrbava
(bronze spears and urns) and on Rudnik ( a bronze hoard, spears,
sickles, needles, ornamental spirals, etc).
In those ancient times Rudnik was the scene of brisk mine
activity.
It can be seen from the numerous remains of the old mine and
melting works in the area having the extent of 16 square kilometers.
The Prehistoric settlement, in the village Ljuljaci, at the
foot of Rudnik mountain, hasn't yet been studied out thoroughly
to reveal the connection with the mining on Rudnik mountain.
